Another Year Older

Yesterday, I turned 28 years old and I had a wonderful birthday.

Last year, I was kind of bummed on my birthday. Things were going ok in life but I just wasn't on track with where I thought I should be at 27. During the past year, I've been through a lot of challenges and changes. Now as I turn the chapter and turn 28, I feel that I'm in a much better place and feeling more at peace with the direction my life is heading.

I've gone after the things I want and need. This is often a hard thing for women to do. We worry so much about pleasing others and lose ourselves in the process. This past year, I've done a much better job at speaking up for what is important to me and going after what I want and what I think I deserve. I hope this doesn't make me sound selfish or self centered but the main thing I've learned over the past year is that if you don't like something...you have the ability to explore your options and take the steps to make those changes.

You might look at your options and decide that where you're at is your best choice or you might discover something you never even considered and it's the perfect solution for you. I have been guilty of just wanting someone else to solve my problems or just waiting...waiting for it to just get better or even just get worse. Time to stop waiting and time to start acting.

Ask For It: How Women Can Use the Power of Negotiation to Get What They Really WantI often recommend this book to friends who are struggling with going after what they know they want and deserve...especially in the work place. A past boss once told me that my strongest asset was that I knew what I wanted and I wasn't afraid to take the steps to get there.

So there is my year's worth of words and wisdom. Obviously, I don't have much and maybe I'll work on gaining more wisdom and insight this year!
